Donald “Donnie” Fantoni, 91, of North Plymouth passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, surrounded by loved ones leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished memories.
Born on March 26, 1935, Don grew up in the Peck Avenue and Castle Street neighborhoods. He attended Hedge & Plymouth Schools and went on to serve his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
A well-known multi-sport athlete who received the “best all-around” award in his graduating class, he was an outstanding member of several sports teams and athletic clubs all over the south shore, as well as nationally and internationally during his military service.
Don retired from L. Knife & Son in 1990 after 28 years driving tractor-trailers. He loved his job and was well-recognized for his hard work and dedicated service. His career in product transportation took him all over the United States, something he was very proud of.
A familiar face to many who remember him from his years of long walks through the downtown Plymouth and waterfront areas, Don was always known for being a strong, kind and approachable soul- often accompanied by his grandchildren.
Local breakfast restaurants like 3A Cafe & Bakery and the former All-American Diner were Don’s favorite places to gather with family, friends, and the community of many who came to know him and look forward to his wisdom and humor- always good for a cup of coffee and a chat.
A devoted father and grandfather, Don’s many years of attending sports games, practices, camps, recitals etc. were his favorite. Time with his children and their children were of utmost importance to him. Aside from his family, Don is remembered fondly by many for his time coaching youth sports.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Dawn Fletcher, and her husband, Al; his loving daughter, Jodi Thomas; and his beloved grandchildren, Zachary Thomas, DJ Fantoni, Dylan Thomas, and Sydney Connors. He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Shelley Fantoni.
He was predeceased by his son, Darin Fantoni, whose memory remained close to his heart throughout his life. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the lives & hearts of his family & all those he touched.
The best “Poppi”
