Obituary

Douglas J. Sukanek, 78, died unexpectedly on June 7th , 2025, at his home in Plymouth, MA.

Doug was born in Pittsfield, MA, graduated from Adams Memorial High School in 1965, Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1967, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1971. He worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT, then Pilgrim Nuclear Station in Plymouth, MA for over 30 years as a Mechanical Engineer until his retirement. Shortly after retiring, Doug worked at Souther's Marsh Golf Club as a Ranger.

Growing up an athlete, Doug participated in many sports and activities, which included: football, baseball, basketball, horse jumping, skiing, hunting and fishing. Later, he spent many years as a girls soccer coach for the Plymouth Youth Soccer Association, ran several marathons, and attended NASCAR races with family and friends. Doug had a love of Corvettes and his prized 1949 antique Chevy truck that he entered into many car shows, winning several trophies.

Doug was an active member of the Upland Sportsmen Club for over 20 years where he made many life-long friends.

For many years, Doug enjoyed attending sporting events in Plymouth. He never missed his son, Colin's, Plymouth North football games. Later he would attend all three of his grandchildren's various sports games at Plymouth North and most recently his great-granddaughter's games.

Doug is survived by his daughter Sara Snow and her husband Chris Snow of Plymouth, MA, his son Colin Sukanek of Plymouth, MA, granddaughter Stacia Tenaglia and her husband Chris Tenaglia of Watertown, MA, grandson Brandon Parks of Middleboro, MA, grandson Cody Parks and his partner Kelli DeCoste of Middleboro, MA and great-granddaughters Ayda, Keira, Rilynn and Vienna. Doug was predeceased by his father Joseph Sukanek, mother Anna Sukanek and his daughter Jennifer Sukanek.

Doug will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Doug on Sunday, July 6th , 2025, from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at the Upland Sportsmen Club in Plympton, MA.
