Edith T. Paparella a resident of Mashpee, MA, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025 with her family at her side. She was known as "Edie" and remembered by all as the kind and loving mother of the Paparella family.
Edie was born in Worcester MA, on March 17, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Albert E. Thursby and Edith E. (Dawson) Thursby.
Edie was the only child of English immigrants and grew up on Holden Street in Worcester MA. Edie's mother passed away when Edie was 9 years old. She was raised by her gentle, caring father Albert with the help of her late Aunt Elizabeth Dawson. Edie had a lifelong love of music. She was an extremely talented pianist and loved playing the organ for her family, friends, and The Waquoit Congregational Church. She was also a noted singer in their church choir.
Upon graduation from North High School in Worcester, Edie enrolled at Worcester State College and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She went on to teach elementary school for the next 3 years.
Edie married Joseph F. Paparella. They briefly lived in Baltimore MD. Eventually they settled in Holliston, MA., where they raised their three children Stephen, Ann, and David Paparella. Edie was a devoted wife and dedicated mother who focused her life on raising her children. Edie had many skills and work experiences. On occasion she was a substitute teacher and a volunteer in the library at the Holliston Middle School. She displayed her decorating skills assisting customers at Doucette's Paint and Wallpaper Shop in Holliston. Edie was a gifted gardener and worked for The Green Thumb Company as a corporate plant care specialist servicing clients throughout Worcester. Edie was always a caregiver. At the age of 55, Edie became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She joined the Falmouth VNA caring for those in need throughout the community.
Edie also enjoyed traveling. She visited family members in England and traveled throughout Europe, Latin America and Asia. For many years she enjoyed wintering at Jenson Beach, FL. She most enjoyed spending the summer months with her family at her home on Cape Cod where she eventually became a year-round resident.
Edith is survived by her Sons Stephen Paparella and his wife Patricia of Georgetown, MA, and David Paparella of Mashpee, MA, daughter Ann Paparella of Mashpee, MA, Grandson John Paparella of Allston, MA, and granddaughters Claire Punte of Mashpee, MA, and Leanne Paparella and her husband Ashlyn Calcagni together with her great grandchildren Jaxyn, Lillyanna, Skylor, and Dylan of Merrimac MA.
Edith was predeceased by her former husband Joseph Paparella, her loyal sister-in-law Catherine A. Paparella, Lisa Birrittieri the beloved late wife of David Paparella, and her cherished friend Richard (Dick) Horne of Falmouth, MA.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Friday 1/17/2025 at 11AM at The Waquoit Congregational Church located (on route 28) at 15 Parsons Lane, East Falmouth, MA 02536. A luncheon is to follow at the Parish Hall.
