Obituary

Edward Thomas Driscoll, Jr., 76, of Plymouth, MA, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born May 20, 1949 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Edward and Irene Driscoll, and big brother to Susan Dority, Ellen Ziegler, and Stephen Driscoll.

In 1976, he married Mary Elizabeth Harrison of Dorchester and started a family, moving from Milton to Mansfield and then to Milford, where they spent 30 years. In their 50th year of marriage, Ed and Mary were models of love, commitment, and mutual respect for their children: Kevin and his wife Lana of Charlottesville, VA and Mark and his wife Katie of Asheville, NC. Ed reveled in the interests and activities of his three grandchildren Callum, Eva, and Ronan.

As a proud graduate of both Boston College High School ('67) and Boston College ('71), Ed was a longtime supporter of Screaming Eagles athletics. He earned an MBA from Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University in 1972.

After forty years in business management, Ed retired in 2012. He began his career overseeing finances for school districts in Lincoln, RI and Framingham, MA, then spent over thirty years at Raytheon working across multiple divisions. In every workplace, he devoted himself to developing new systems for efficiency and mentoring junior colleagues. In retirement, he directed his prodigious spreadsheet skills to helping his friends and family. He planned trips throughout the United States and Europe, and proudly showed off his Duolingo score. In 2018, Ed and Mary settled in Plymouth, becoming some of the first residents of Summer Reach. Ed was instrumental in organizing neighborhood activities including the community garden, book club, and tool-sharing program.

Ed was a Catholic and a member of Mary Queen of Martyrs Parish in Plymouth, MA. He deeply identified with the Jesuit tradition and expressed his faith through service, volunteering for many years at the Daily Bread Food Pantry in Milford, Plymouth Coalition for the Homeless, and St. Peter's Kitchen in Plymouth. He was dedicated to supporting those who were less fortunate.

Ed was a lifelong athlete and spent as much time as possible outdoors. He was always trying new things: running track in high school, cycling in Nova Scotia, skiing in the White Mountains, rollerblading down Storrow Drive, and climbing to the AMC huts. Even in his 70s, he could be found lacing up his hockey skates for open hours at the state rink and organizing weekly hikes with friends (often capped off with coffee and a muffin).

Ed also loved music, from classical and blues to jazz and rock and roll. He grew up going to dances all over Boston and frequented performances at Symphony Hall and The Spire Center. During recent trips to Ireland, he loved nothing more than finding a lively "session" in a cozy pub.

Everything that Ed loved in life involved his family, friends, and community. He always held up his pint for the first toast, said a heartfelt grace before dinner, and made everyone feel welcome at his table.

Ed's life will be celebrated on Friday, May 8, at Saint Kateri Church in Plymouth, MA. A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 AM with the funeral mass beginning at 10:30 AM. The burial of ashes will follow at Saint Joseph's Cemetery on Summer Street in Plymouth.
