Obituary

Edwin M. Larsen Jr., 84, of East Sandwich, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Known as Ed or Eddy to those close to him, he was born at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro and grew up in Wrentham, Massachusetts, where his sister Dorothy still resides. His family ran Eddy's Taxi, the local cab company that carried his name.

Ed proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He spent most of his career in the pulp and paper industry as a project manager, first servicing paper making machines and later machines for recycling as the industry evolved. His work took him across the country, with long stints in Northern Michigan, Wisconsin, and Oregon. He loved life on the road and the experiences that came with it.

Ed loved being near the water and boating. He and Shirley split their time between Cape Cod and Florida for many years. Ed was a member of the Hyannis Elks and VFW as well as the American Legion in Sandwich.

After retiring, Ed found joy working at the Sandwich Marina, greeting boaters from around the world. He often said it was his favorite job. A true Cape Codder at heart, he loved scallops from Seafood Sam's, clam cakes from Captain Frosty's, and never turned down an ice cream outing.

Ed was a devoted family man. Gray since his twenties, he was often found in the garden, his silver hair shining in the sun. He cared deeply for his yard and took pride in growing vegetables. In their early years as parents, Ed and his wife Shirley bought a home that came with a dog named Verna and a full chicken coop. Ed went on to build a horse barn and tended a remarkable garden, teaching his children the value of hard work and the reward of caring for the land and animals.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Larsen; daughter, Julie Larsen Wake; son, David Larsen; and grandchildren, Alicia Larsen, Larsen Wake, and Soren Wake. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Larsen. He was predeceased by his mother, Pauline, his father, Edwin, and his sister, Helen Lanagan.

The family wishes to thank the compassionate team at Cape Cod Hospital and the McCarthy Care Center for their care and kindness in Ed's final days.

Ed was proud of his daughter's work in the arts and supported her efforts to make creativity accessible to all. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.

He will be deeply missed and remembered for his optimism, his silver hair, and his unwavering love for family.
