Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Leone) Sheppard, age 88, formerly of Weymouth passed away peacefully and with her family on November 14, 2013. Betty was born and lived on Shawmut Street in East Weymouth before moving to Broad Street, and then on to Hingham. She briefly worked in Washington, DC during WWII as a secretary and married Gerald Sheppard in 1946. Jerry and Betty together raised six children and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. They will now happily be reunited. Betty was an active golfer for many years at Halifax Country Club, and then at South Shore Country Club in Hingham. She also very much enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and cooking, but truly loved being with her family and friends the most. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Gerald F. Sheppard, her mother and father, Elizabeth and Joseph Leone, her mother-in-law Lillian Bolin, brothers Gus and Tony Leone, and sister Mary Galante. She is survived by her children, Elaine McCarthy and her husband Richard of Plymouth, Steve Sheppard of Rockland, Gerry Sheppard and his wife Nanci of Duxbury, Larry Sheppard and his wife Joanne of Florida, Carolyn Havey and her husband John of Weymouth, and Bob Sheppard and his wife Ginny of Whitman. She leaves and is warmly remembered as Nana to 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, Auntie Betty to many nieces and nephews, and Liz to her siblings Joseph, William and Frederic Leone of Weymouth, Richard Leone of Florida and Lucy Ciavattieri of Florida. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, November 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 1199 Commercial Street, East Weymouth, MA 02189. A reception will follow at 12 pm at the South Shore Country Club, Hingham MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Wingate Activities Room, 17 Chipman Way, Kingston, MA 02364 where she was so graciously treated and loved the past few years.
