Obituary

Prather, Elmer (Al), 88, of Carver, passed away on September 21, 2013 surrounded by family. He was born in Titusville, PA, son of the late Ella (Moore) and E. Clyde Prather. Al grew up on his parents' farm in Titusville, PA. After graduating from Titusville HS, he enlisted in the Navy, spending WWII as a signalman on mine sweepers in the Pacific. He was the loving husband of the late Yvonne (Rougeau), to whom he was married for 57 years, Al worked as a foreman and supervisor for Swiedler Building Co. for 15 years before founding Prather Construction Company in 1969 with his sons Dan and Michael. He enjoyed designing homes, making things work, playing golf and bridge, and gardening. He was a proud veteran and member of the American Legion, and enjoyed a membership at the Plymouth Country Club. The father of 6, Al was preceded in death by his daughter Elaine. He is survived by his children, Jackie Slade, of Mattapoisett, Jim Lee, of Franklin, Michael Prather and his wife Judy Smith Prather, of Carlisle, Penny Prather of Newton, and Daniel Prather of Mansfield. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be made by the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth, MA. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 26. Interment will follow at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree.
