IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frederick Alvin
Wood
August 24, 1948 – December 17, 2024
Frederick A. Wood Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on December 17, 2024, at the age of 76. He was born on August 24, 1948, in Plymouth, MA to Flora (Shaw) and Frederick A. Wood Sr. Fred graduated from Plymouth-Carver High School in 1967.
Fred met his loving wife Deanna (Smith) in 1978 at a local Carver pub where she was a bartender. His bravery, leadership and charm captured Deanna's heart and the two were married on September 6, 1980. Together, they built their forever home in West Plymouth where Fred remained for the rest of his life.
Fred was a lifelong contributor to the cranberry industry, having worked in it for most of his life. He was a brilliant mechanic who was able to fix just about anything - if he couldn't find a way to fix it, it couldn't be fixed. After retiring from the Plymouth Public School Department in 2015, he continued to run Wood Family Cranberry until his passing.
Fred was an avid hunter who spent countless Autumn days in the woods and had a love of classic cars. Fred had a number of dogs throughout the years, but his Doberman, Kate, was his favorite. Above all, Fred loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who brought immeasurable joy to Fred's life. In retirement, he took pride in sharing his knowledge of cranberry growing with the next generation. Fred leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Deanna (Smith) Wood. He is survived by his sister, Janice (Wood) and her late husband Stan Geisler of Fort Worth, Texas, his brother Curtis Wood of Wolcott, Connecticut, his sons, Peter Wood of Lakeville, Massachusetts, Daniel Wood and his wife Stephanie (Blum) of Plymouth, Massachusetts, and Frederick Wood III and his wife Sarah (Flint) of Plymouth, Massachusetts. Fred also leaves behind his loving grandchildren Holly Wood of Halifax, Massachusetts, Shawn Wood of Lakeville, Massachusetts, Danny and Hannah Wood of Plymouth, Massachusetts and Hayden and Charlie Wood of Plymouth, Massachusetts. A Celebration of Life will be planned for after the new year.
