George Dameral Carns, III, of Westport, Mass., passed away unexpectedly at the age of 66 on Monday, December 9th. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and was the son of the late George and Barbara Carns of New Bedford, Massachusetts. He retired after working many years in the construction and retail industries, was a practicing musician, photographer, and avidly involved in the arts, including the Greater Fall River Art Association. George was also a Vietnam war-era veteran.
George is survived by his wife of 28 years, Diana Azevedo-Carns, and siblings, Louisa Carns Ellis of Atlanta, Daniel Carns and wife Vicki of Cape Coral, Florida, Robin Carns of New Bedford, and Tom Carns and wife Julie Kirkenslager of Irvine California. His nieces and nephew include Julia Ellis Usry and her husband John Daniel Usry of Atlanta, and Jessie Carns and wife Lizzie, and Allison Mae Carns of Cape Cod, as well as a grand-niece Calia Mae Carns.
A celebration of life memorial will be held at Tryworks Auditorium in the New Bedford Unitarian Church, 71 Eight Street entrance, from 3 to 7 pm on Saturday, December 14th. All are welcome to bring instruments, readings and memories to share.
