Obituary

Geraldine Ann Johnson, 83, passed away on June 24, 2025 at her home in Pembroke, MA surrounded by loved ones.

Geraldine 'Geri' was born in Cambridge, MA, to her parents, George Bauer & Ann Bauer - Pinkham. They lived between Florida and Massachusetts throughout her elementary school years due to her father's job as a resort baker. Once her siblings came along, they lived in Stoughton, MA and then settled in Norwell, MA. Shortly after she graduated from Stoughton High School, she got married to Don Johnson in Stoughton.

Geri and Don bought their first and only home in Pembroke, MA with their 2 children, Michael and Michele, in 1970. Early on, Geri was a stay at home super mom, was a Cub Scout & Bluebird leader, volunteered for The Imperials marching band where her son was a member, and did whatever was needed for her kids. Later she worked as the lunch lady at Silver Lake Junior High School while attending night classes at Massasoit Community College. She graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with an Associates Degree. She then began her career as a laboratory technician in hematology, working the night shift, at Boston Medical Center until her retirement in her 70's.

Geri enjoyed many diverse interests, including riding motorcycles with her family (many trips to Lake George, NY to attend Americade bike week) and was a member of the motorcycle club Women On Wheels. She made sure the family would make a few camping trips every year to Curlew Pond in Myles Standish State Park. She enjoyed kayaking with her dogs and her sister, Joy. Every year she would sail on the Mystic Clipper out of Mystic, CT becoming friends with the captain and crew, even completing their apprenticeship training becoming crew for a week. She loved it.

Geri cared for her husband for many years. After his passing, she bought and sailed her small sailboat out of Duxbury Bay - creating many memories for her family and fulfilling a life long dream of her own. The ocean was her happy place - a true New Englander. She loved animals and would often rehab injured wildlife, birds, squirrels, possums, raccoons, bunnies, and more. Passing along the same love and respect for all creatures to her family. She was a super fan of The Walking Dead series. She enjoyed music (especially Jimmy Buffett & Meatloaf), attending concerts, plays, musicals, and even her daughter's loud rock shows.

She loved spending time with her two grandchildren, Zack & Michaela, especially taking them on excursions to the beach, into Boston, or attending their dance recitals and games. She loved to travel and made a point to do so whenever she could. Later in life, when she could no longer sail her boat, she bought a camper in WI, flew out and drove back on her own. Geri drove it down to NC for her daughter's wedding and, eventually, all over New England. She really enjoyed camping with her son and her dogs, Chester & Charlotte. Geri was up for anything!

Geri was the oldest of six. She made a point to remember everyone's birthday, mailing everyone a card, even as the family grew. Though a lot to keep track of, it was important to her that everyone felt special on their day. She was a very special lady, a true character, who led a full life and will be greatly missed by many.

Geri was preceded in death by her husband, Don Johnson. Survived by her son D. Michael Johnson of Pembroke, MA, daughter Michele Kish of Colchester, VT, grandchildren Michaela Gault of Bothell, WA, Zachary Johnson of Dade City, FL, great grandchildren Emma Johnson, Eliza Gault, siblings Jack Bauer, George Bauer, Joy Casella, Glen Bauer, Jeff Bauer and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

There will be a 'Celebration of Geri' at the Camp Kiwanee Lodge in Hanson, MA - date to be announced at a later time. If you'd like to attend, even just for a short time, please reach out to Michele: micheleann70@gmail.com
