Carvalho, Gilbert, passed away due to heart disease on Saturday, September 2, 2017. He was born on May 18, 1934, and was the son of the late Mariano E. Carvalho and Mary Lois (Pacheco) Carvalho. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor (Gale) Carvalho and is also survived by his daughter, Noreen Carvalho Bechade and her husband, Serge, of Plymouth; and his son, Brian Carvalho and his wife, Lisa, of Taunton. He is the grandfather of Renee Bechade, Justin Carvalho, Tyler Carvalho and Haleigh Carvalho. He is also survived by his sister, Marlene Black of Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was born and raised in East Taunton and lived there his entire life. He attended Brookside Academy in East Taunton and South Lancaster Academy in Lancaster, Massachusetts. He also attended Rhode Island School of Design.

He was a coach for many years with the Taunton Eastern Little League. His love for baseball and helping young athletes develop their athletic skills were a passion of his.

He was an art director and photographer at Ad-A-Day, Nyman Manufacturing, Bernat & Sons Yarn and Brite Industries throughout his career. He was an entrepreneur and owned many businesses throughout his life such as Squaw-Betty Moccasin, "The Messenger News" a local circulation newspaper, Kaleidoscope Graphics Printing Company, Designers Ink and Imprint Silkscreen. He served on the Bristol Plymouth Regional Technical High School as Chairman of the Graphic Design Advisory Board. He once served as President of the Taunton Art Association and was involved with the Plymouth Center for the Arts (the Plymouth Guild). He was known for his unique form of photo style paintings and photo restorations. He won numerous awards for his art work.

His ultimate dream was to have his own art gallery and was able to accomplish it when he entered Life Care of Raynham. He brought much joy to the residents and staff with his paintings.

Before his death, his passion became about giving back to others; one of them being the hosting of a fundraiser with the proceeds of his paintings to support a young local Taunton woman after reading an article about her in the "Taunton Daily Gazette" where she overcame many health issues. The proceeds were used towards her college tuition for a nursing degree. He appeared in many articles throughout his life in the Taunton Daily Gazette with the last one being his support to the local Taunton woman. He had recently started another fundraiser to help his church with their humanities missions.

He had an amazing sense of humor and enjoyed creating Halloween haunted houses in his barn for his children and their friends. He truly believed in the magic and wonder of Christmas and went to great lengths to keep the spirit alive with all the children in the family. His great sense of humor, his perseverance and positive attitude will live on with his family and friends who knew and loved him.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, September 6, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street in Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at the Bartlett Funeral Home on Thursday, September 7, at 10:00 am. Interment is at the Central Cemetery on Center Street in Middleboro
