Obituary

James E. Coffey , a resident of Kingston , peacefully passed away at the age of 75 on December 26, 2012 surrounded by family at the Jordan Hospital. . He was born October 13, 1937 in Boston, MA to John P. and Mary Ann (McKay) Coffey. Growing up he attended the Kingston Public Schools until joining the U.S. Air Force in 1957 as an Aircraft Mechanic. After serving, he worked as a long-time employee at Kingston Tire under the direction of Leo McLaughlin. Jim's love for boating eventually led him to the Jones River Landing Boatyard where he volunteered as a member of the Environmental Heritage Center. He was also a member of both the Hilltop Athletic Association and Hillside Club. When not serving his community, Jim was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and sailing. But, until the day he died, his greatest passion was helping others: he was well-known for his mechanical ingenuity and selfless acts of kindness. He leaves behind his children Robert Coffey (Marie) of Dellroy, Ohio; Karen Davidson (Kenneth) of Winnetka, Illinois; and the late Steven Coffey (Brenda) of Cleveland, Tennessee; his grandchildren Robert Coffey of Kingston, MA; Michael and Sarah Davidson of Winnetka, IL; Kelly Coffey of Cleveland, Tennessee; and his two step-grandchildren John and David Mullin of Cleveland, Tennessee. He is survived by his two sisters Marie (William) Guidetti of Carver, Ma; and Margaret Thurber of Plymouth, MA; but was predeceased by his siblings John J., Joseph, Margaret, Daniel and Edward Coffey. He also leaves behind his former wife Mary Coffey MacFarlane of Kingston, MA. The burial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Jones River Landing Environmental Heritage Center will be welcome.
