Obituary

McCLURE, James King Died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 5, 2014 after a courageous eleven-year battle with cancer. Born on May 4, 1954 in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of Lambert Hicks McClure and Marian McCane McClure, Jim spent his early childhood in West Hartford, CT. After the early death of his father, his mother married William Arthur Flint and the family moved to Hamden, CT. While there, Jim attended the Glenridge Elementary School and Hamden Hall Preparatory School. In 1973, Jim graduated from Suffield Academy, where he was president of the student government. In 1977, he graduated from Hobart College where he was president of Sigma Phi fraternity and received his Bachelors degree in English. After college, Jim spent time in New York City before settling in the Boston area. His business career started with McGraw Hill Publishing. From there, he joined Computerworld, where he was the national sales manager for their start-up publication, Digital News. In 1989, Jim joined Korn Ferry, a renowned international executive search firm, where he became the firms youngest partner. After many successful years in the recruitment industry, Jim joined Keystone/Essex Partners and found his passion in the new field of executive coaching, the area in which he worked tirelessly throughout his illness, helping many people reinvent their lives. Jim married the love of his life, Sidney Peard, in 1981 and together they raised two extraordinary daughters, Lindsay Peard and Molly Lambert, now ages 28 and 26. Jim and Sidney spent most of their married years in Duxbury, Massachusetts, enjoying family life with many very close friends. Jim devoted much of his life to volunteer activities that involved his family and youth. Mentoring teens in the confirmation program at Pilgrim Church, volunteering at the Duxbury Yacht Club, and starting and then coaching the girls basketball B team were favorites. However, he found his true passion when be began his 14-year association with Crossroads for Kids, an organization providing summer opportunities and ongoing support and resources for young people from at-risk environments. Jim was a galvanizing force, drawing on his warmth and infectious spirit to engage the full Duxbury community around the work and mission of this amazing organization. He served on their Board of Trustees for many years and was active as a mentor and a coach as well. Jim will be remembered for his deep sense of integrity, his fierce loyalty, and, most especially, his exceptional gift for listening, engaging, and mentoring people of all ages. im is survived by his wife, Sidney Peard McClure and his daughters Lindsay of Norwich, VT. and Molly McClure newly relocated to Duxbury, MA; his sisters, Susan Harris of Duxbury, MA and Betsy Foote of Orlando, FL; his stepsister, Barbara Flint Bradley of Branford, CT and stepbrother, William Arthur Flint, Jr. of Vero Beach, FL. and their children. He is also survived by three nieces, Lisa Badeau of Duxbury, Annette Donovan of Maynard, MA, and Sarah Fonkalsrud of San Rafael, CA, his nephew, Curtis Foote of Orlando, FL, and countless other extended family members and close friends. A memorial service will be held at Pilgrim Church in Duxbury, April 11, 2014, 11:00 am.
