Obituary

James McCourt
November 22, 1968 - August 30, 2026
James McCourt passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Cape Cod Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with an extended illness.

Jim grew up in the Boston area. A difficult childhood, filled with challenging circumstances, propelled Jim to learn the value of hard work, self-reliance, and treating others with respect; traits that would later lead to his successful culinary career. He was a natural in the world of hospitality. A true professional, Jim knew the business inside and out and took great pride in every aspect of his work. Over the years, he worked his way through every position in the restaurant, from dishwasher to general manager, building a career that took him from Boston to Florida and ultimately to Cape Cod. After all of his years in this industry, Jim never lost his passion. He never failed to treated his staff like family, continued to provide his guests with exceptional service, and consistently and humbly produced amazing culinary creations.

Of course, Jim's most incredible creation was not in the kitchen. It was when he and Melissa welcomed their beautiful daughter, Samantha Mia, into the world in 2005. Sam was Jim's pride and joy. He and Sam spent much of their time together, creating in the kitchen side by side. Jim continuously poured his entire heart, and all of his recipes, into his little girl. Sam will proudly continue to share her Dad's love through her own cooking.

With a generous and caring heart, Jim was constantly fighting for the underdog. He understood struggle and was always eager to help those who were suffering. He had a quick wit with the sarcastic humor that only a true Bostonian can possess. And naturally, he was a huge Patriots fan, as he believed every New Englander should be.

Jim will be loved and missed endlessly. His family and friends will continue to honor him by cheering on the Pats, feeding Sweetie way too many treats, laughing at good (possibly off-color) jokes, eating and serving great food, and treating others with kindness.

A celebration of Jim's life will follow at a later date. In the meantime, when you think of Jim, please consider volunteering or making a donation to local charities that support individuals and families experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. And, of course, please continue to take care of one another.
