Obituary

James B. Pickel of Hingham, formerly of Braintree, died peacefully on October 1 after a long illness. Beloved husband of Carolyn Eleanor (Freehan) Pickel; devoted father of James Pickel of Plymouth and Richard Jones of Philadelphia. He also leaves daughter-in-law Joyce Pickel, Nancy Hardesty, grandchildren Jeffrey Pickel and Laura (Pickel) Drew, and great-grandchildren Kenneth, Cameron, and Amanda Drew and Julia and Brian Pickel, all of Plymouth. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he graduated from MIT, then taught at Washington University in St. Louis while working on his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering there. He enjoyed three separate, long careers at E. I. DuPont in Wilmington, DE, the Gillette Safety Razor Co. in So. Boston, and the Woodward School for Girls in Quincy, retiring at age 84. He was an avid golfer and Life Master in bridge, and a member of the Puritan Bridge Club in Braintree. A memorial service will be held at United First Parish Church, 1306 Hancock St., Quincy, on Saturday, October 15, at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made either to the Woodward School, 1102 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA 02169, or the Norwell VNA and Hospice, 91 Longwater Circle, Norwell, MA 02061, or United First Parish Church (address above).
