Obituary

Janet Gage embarked on her final adventure on June 30, 2024, when she moved from this life to her eternal home in heaven. Born in Philadelphia, PA to William Niblock and Grace Neary Rennie, she was the loving younger sister to William Robert (Bob) Niblock (Barbara Parsons). Janet met and married the love of her life, LTCDR Robert Johnson Gage, who was a Naval Aviator on the USS Forrestal, and was a member of the Saints Squadron.

Janet began her long career as a nurse when she graduated from the Episcopal Nursing School in Philadelphia, and went on to work at Cape Cod Hospital and Cape Cod Pediatrics for many years. She loved working with children, and one of her favorite roles was as the Camp Nurse at Camp Good News in Forestdale, MA. She was the School Nurse and ran the "Cellar Door" snack bar at The Stony Brook School, in Stony Brook, Long Island, for many years, where she took many students under her wing.

A mother of four, Kim (Clay Lovelace), Dawn, Scott (Ellen Kelly), and Paul (Lisa Sweetser) were the loves of her life, and she could often be found singing "A Bushel and a Peck" to her children and grandchildren. Janet took on the unenviable task of leading her family alone when she was widowed in 1968 when Robert tragically died in a military plane crash. Undaunted, Janet took on the role of single mother with style, creating a tight-knit, loving family that reflects her love of God, grace, humor, and quirkiness to this day.

A member of Forestdale Church since the 1960's, Janet served on the Missions and Social Committees, and could often be found working with children in Sunday School or the nursery. She was a member of the Christian Women's Club and a fixture at the Barnstable Yacht Club, where she made her children, grandchildren and even now great grandchildren grow to love the water and sailing. She was a faithful member of the Barnstable Quilting group and was recognized as their best raffle ticket seller for many years raising money for the Cancer Society.

Janet was renowned for her love of a bargain. There was not a thrift shop, swap shop, clearance rack or yard sale she could resist. This love of thrifting has been passed down to the younger generations.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, brother, husband, and daughter Dawn. She is survived by her remaining three children, eight grandchildren, Jesse Lovelace (Kristan), Joshua Gage (Libby Spencer), Melanie Incles (Ryan), Jordan Herman (Neal), Morgan Neptune (Jamal), Alexander Gage, Abigail Alvera (Joshua), Samantha Cary (Michael), 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Janet's memory on Saturday, October 19th at 11:00 am at Christ Chapel, 1200 Race Lane, Centerville, MA.

In lieu of flowers donations in Janet's honor may be made to Forestdale Church or the Stony Brook School.
