Jeffrey Hugh Rawson
Carver, MA- Jeffery H. Rawson,":, formally of Vernon, VT, died of osteo sarcoma cancer peacefully on Nov 22,2021 at home with his family by his side. He was born in Hartford, CT, the son of Hugh A, and Eleanor A. (Stevens) Rawson.
Jeffrey graduated from Greenfield High School in 1979 and served with the Massachusetts
Army National Guard from 1979 to 1985 when he was honorably discharged. He also attended
Greenfield Community College.
In 1989, Jeffrey married the love of his life, Terry Jean (Shover) at the First Congregational Church in Greenfield, MA and settled in Vernon, VT to raise his family. Jeffrey began his law enforcement career in 1982 working with the Vernon Police Department and graduating with the 44' Basic Training Class of the Vermont Police Academy. He also served as a Provisional Reserve (part time) Officer on the Greenfield Police Department in Greenfield, MA until 1991.
Jeffrey began working in the security department at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant in Vernon in 1996 transferring to the Plymouth Pilgrim Station in Massachusetts in 2016 and then to Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Station in Mississippi in July 2019.
Jeffrey enjoyed family activities and coaching youth sports. While coaching his daughter in high school softball, the team won back-to-back Division 1 state championships in 2010 and 2011. Jeffrey continued coaching after his daughter graduated until 2017. He was greatly humbled when the team captain promised to win the state championship on his behalf after the team learned he had cancer in 2013, which the team accomplished by winning the championship again. Jeftrey also coached for seven years in the summer league now known as the Brattleboro Heat Girls Softball.
Jeffrey enjoyed playing sports from an early age to his adult years. He played Babe Ruth to Sr. Babe Ruth Leagues to Legion Baseball. He played in the men's softball leagues in Greenfield, MA and Brattleboro, VT and played men's flag football in Greenfield, MA. He loved all Boston sports especially the Boston Red Sox and N.E. Patriots.
Jeffrey loved the outdoors including hunting and fishing. He made frequent annual fishing trips to Minnesota to fish with his oldest brother. His most memorable hunting trip was to Kansas to bow hunt deer with his son Cody, which was a successful hunt.
Jeffrey continued to battle cancer during the past eight years since the original diagnosis in 2013. His loving family and many friends supported his arduous journey through multiple surgeries, chemo & radiation treatments. He valiantly battled this beast of a disease from his home until exhausting all treatment possibilities. Jeffrey and his family wish to thank the Oncology staff at Massachusetts General Hospital for all the professional treatment and care he received from them. Their ability to provide protessional care and support went above and beyond our expectations. Our family thanks them with all our hearts.
Jeffrey is predeceased by his sister Kathleen (2012), mother Eleanor (2013), mother-in-law, Sandra Shover (2019), granddaughter Remi Rose (2021) and Maggie (2021) who was his constant pet companion and nurse for 13 years. Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Terry (shover) Rawson, sons Zachary of Loris, SC, Cody and his wife Heather (Bachinski) of Spofford, NH and daughter Cassandra of Goose Creek, SC, step-grandson Mason of Conway, SC, and Tank, the family pet bulldog. Jeffrey is also survived by his father, Hugh of Merrimack, NH, brothers Edward (Ellen) of Merrimack, NH, Craig (Dianna) of Greenfield, MA, and Michael (Alicia) of Cohasset, MA, father-in-law Alexander Shover of Myrtle Beach, SC,, brothers-in-law Dean Shover of Conway, SC, James & Stephen of Myrtle Beach, SC and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service Will be conducted on Dec. 4th at the Vernon Advent Christian Church at 4554 Fort Bridgman Rd in Vernon, VT 05354 with the Pastor Bruce Burks officiating. Burial will follow services at the family plots at the North Cemetery in Vernon, VT.
