Obituary

Simas, Jeremias, 89, of Wareham, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. He was born in Taunton, the son of the late Arsenio and Maria (Furtado) Simas. Jeremias was the loving husband, for 27 years, of Joan (Hodnett). He leaves behind his children, Jeffrey (and Joyce) Simas of FL, Nancy Morrissette of SC and Suzanne (and George) Laprise of NC. He also leaves behind 3 grand children and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gilbert and Dennis Simas. Jeremias was a graduate of Taunton High School and UMass Dartmouth. He joined the United States Navy in 1943. He was a medic on board an LTC 512 at Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. After coming home from the war, he worked 10 years for the Mass Department of Unemployment and 30 years for the Brockton VA Hospitial as vocational rehabilitation specialist. He enjoyed reading and dancing. Funeral arrangements will be made by the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth, 02360. Calling hours will be from 8:00 – 9:00 am on Friday, January 24th, 2014. A funeral mass will be held at St. Margaret's Church at 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay, MA, 02532 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Bourne National Cemetery at 11:30 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry's memory to the MSPCA at www.mspca.org Or MSPCA, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130 or to a charity of your choice.
