Obituary

John J. Cappello died peacefully at home with his family in Plymouth, Massachusetts on August 16th. He was 87 years old and beloved by all who knew him. During the course of his life, he lived in the west end of Boston, Medford, Dorchester, Westwood, and Malden before moving to Plymouth. John was a long-time employee of the US Postal Service and a veteran of the US Army Air Corps in World War II. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and teaching them how to lose at cards and various board games. He was also an amateur furniture maker, stamp collector, gardener, and connoisseur of Westerns, crime dramas, and action movies. He was the husband of the late Maralyn Cappello and father to Ann C. Ryan of Melrose, John P. Cappello of Plymouth, Dean Cappello of Brooklyn, NY, and Denise Weber of Melrose. He was also father-in-law to William Ryan, Eileen Cappello, Diantha Parker, and Paul Weber. He was the son of the late Filippo and Mary Cappello and brother to Mary Esposito, Rosario Cappello, Mario Cappello, Carmela Renault, Joseph Cappello, and Catherine Briasco. Among his greatest joys were his grandchildren Jennifer Cappello, Benjamin Cappello, Megan Ryan, Meredith Ryan, Lucia Cappello, and Olivia Weber as well as his great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Emily, and James. Family and friends will remember and celebrate John's life privately. Those who wish to honor him may donate to Special Olympics or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, two charities about which he cared deeply.
