John Arthur Engstrom, 87, passed away peacefully on March 13 at Wingate Skilled Nursing in Kingston, MA.

John was born in Chicago, IL on April 19, 1937, grew up in Chagrin Falls, OH, attended Chagrin Falls Exempt Village School and graduated from Augustana College with a degree in Geography/Geology. He later served in the US Army from 1960-1966. In 1971, he moved to Delmar, NY where he was head of planning for New York State Department of Transportation and retired in 1999 in Eastham, MA.

John spent several years caring for his son, Christopher Engstrom who passed away from ALS in 2017. He was also a caregiver for his wife Patricia who became disabled after suffering a stroke in 2016.

John was an avid fly fisherman and fly tyer, frequently seen fishing the Brewster flats.

John is survived by his wife Patricia of 59 years, daughter Jennifer of Plymouth, MA, his son Michael and daughter in-law Kirsten of Bedford, NH and 2 grandkids, Carly and Tate, and his sister, Judy Murray and her husband, Bill Murray of Washington and many nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of life will be held at a future date.
