Obituary

Kennedy, John A. Jr., 86, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2013. He was the son of the late John and Nora (Hannon) Kennedy. John was born and raised in Plymouth, graduating from Plymouth schools, before joining the Navy in 1944 serving in Okinawa. "Smiling Jack" worked for the United States Postal Service for 36 years before retiring. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was also a life member of the DAV, the American Legion, Post 40, the VFW and the Seabee Association. Jack was the loving husband of 60 years to Margaret (Mello). He was the devoted and much loved father of John A. Kennedy III, of Plymouth, Patricia A. Webber of Plymouth, Margaret A. Kennedy of Plymouth and James M. Kennedy of Connecticut. He was "Papa" to 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Mary E. Henry and Margaret "Ann" Kemp, both of Plymouth, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Jack got great joy hearing about his family's activities and new ventures; always lending his advice, continuous generosity and sharp sense of humor. His family will always remember his quick one-liners. During his illness he kept a positive attitude and never complained even during the toughest of times. A visit with Jack always ended with… "Keep smiling!" Funeral arrangements will be made by the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Calling hours will be Thursday, November 7, from 8:30-9:30 AM at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter's Church, 86 Court Street, at 10:00 AM on Thursday. Interment will follow at Bourne National Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in John's memory to St. Peter's Church.
