John Harry Skiver, 81, died on January 20, 2025, after a short illness.
John was born in Boston, MA, graduated from Cathedral high school, in 1961. He was drafted into the US Army in 1966, served in Vietnam, honorably discharged in 1968. John graduated from Northeastern University in 1972, and earned a masters degree in Marine biology at Dalhousie University in 1978. John transitioned from marine biology into computers and software development. John worked for different companies until the dot-com bust in 1998. He traveled many times to Greece and bought a parcel of land and built a beautiful house in Kalamata, Greece. He moved there in 1999, and traveled extensively in Europe, moving back to the US in 2019, just before the pandemic.
John had varied interest, he enjoyed reading, gardening, playing tennis, and pottery making, he made many pieces of pottery art, and gave away most of them. John loved cats and at his home in Kalamata he had several and most were strays, they stayed on his property and he fed them daily. On his property, he had upwards of 40 olive trees, a local farmer would manage and harvest the olives and John would end up with gallons of Kalamata olive oil.
John is survived by his brother Michael, his nephews Bryan, and Matthew.
A private service will be held on Thursday, February 6, at the US National Military cemetery in Bourne, MA.
