Obituary

Joseph F. McInnis, 97, a long time resident of Duxbury Massachusetts, died on December 11, 2021 after a short illness and hospital stay. Born September 13, 1924 the son of the late Francis and Mary (Lawton) McInnis, Joe grew up in Dorchester, MA. A proud American, Joe followed his brother and enlisted in the United States

Navy and was a veteran of World War II. As a commissioned Seaman First Class, Joe served on NTS Great

Lakes, Illinois, USS Arkansas BB-33, USS Maury, USS Stewart DE-238, and USS Edsall DE-129. He was

awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, and European African Middle Eastern

Ribbon.

Upon discharge from the Navy, Joe attended and graduated from Bentley College, and enjoyed a long

career as a government contractor at Raytheon. Joe's loyalty was perhaps his greatest strength of all;

he was proud to have served his country and fiercely dedicated and loyal as a husband. His first love

was the late Elizabeth ("Betty") E. McInnis with whom he lived in Holbrook, MA until her untimely

passing in 1993. In retirement, Joe spent his spare time with friends at White's Flower Shop

enthusiastically delivering flowers in hard to find places all over the South Shore. It was at White's

where Joe met and ultimately married his second wife, the late Robin E. MacCloskey McInnis, sharing a

love for travel, friends and family, and their Duxbury home where they enjoyed nearly 25 years of

marriage until Robin's passing in 2017.

Joe lived an active life well into his 90's. Although he had slowed down in recent years and struggled

with isolation due to COVID-19, his endurance, strength, and vitality amazed his friends and family. He

was able to do things throughout his 80's and 90's the would challenge many much younger men. Up to

a few weeks before his death, Joe lived independently and drove around the South Shore on his own.

Joe loved to skate and play ice hockey and was an avid golfer. Joe could be seen tending his beloved in-

ground pool with meticulous care, or working outdoors. Joe was very interested in politics and

government and had strong opinions, and loved his Rush Limbaugh and in later years Fox News. An avid

sports fan, Joe loved Notre Dame and the Boston sports teams, he lived long enough to see his Bruins

win the Cup, to see unparalleled dominance by the Patriots, and, after years of disillusionment, to see

the Red Sox finally win in 2004 and have continued success thereafter, with Joe never missing a game on

TV. Joe also took great pride in following his nephew Marty McInnis's exploits as a Boston Bruin and in

the NHL, bragging about Marty to whoever would listen.

Joe is survived by his two stepchildren: Allison Farquharson and her husband Bill of Duxbury; and

Christopher Agnew and his wife Svetlana of Chicago, Illinois, formerly of Duxbury. He also leaves his

four grandchildren, Allison's children Chandler, Linnea, Jillian, and Georgia Berry of Duxbury; siblings

Martina Andersen of Lexington, Frances Donovan of Littleton, the late Virginia Seaver, the late James

McInnis, and the late Katherine Campbell; and sister-in-law, Susan MacCloskey, of Marshfield.

A memorial mass and military honors will be held at Holy Family Church in Duxbury on Friday January

14th at 10am. Immediately following the mass, Joe will be laid to rest next to his beloved first wife Betty in the Garden of Veterans Honor at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton, MA.
