Joseph Medeiros, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Born on October 17, 1949, in Remédios da Lagoa, São Miguel, Azores, Joseph was the son of the late João Caetano and Olívia Medeiros. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings and carried his love for his homeland with him throughout his life.
Joseph emigrated to Canada in 1973 where he married and later settled in the United States in 1974. He built a life grounded in hard work and dedication. His first job was at Slim's Garage, after which he worked as a mechanic at Ford before continuing his career at BIW. Due to illness, Joseph retired at the age of 62.
He was deeply involved in his community and proudly served as president of the Cristoforo Colombo Club for many years. He was also a longtime member of the Seaside Club.
Joseph was an avid sports fan who loved soccer, especially his favorite team, Benfica as well as the New England Patriots. He was also a devoted fan of John Elway. Outside of sports, he found joy in tending to his garden, returning to visit his homeland, and spending time with his beloved wife and family.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife Maria of 52 years; his children, Elizabeth Glover of Plymouth, Jennifer Conway of Plymouth, Michael Medeiros and his wife Lauren of Plymouth, and Amanda Fernandes of Plymouth; and his cherished grandchildren, Justin, Dominic, Landon, Bella, Olivia, Laylen, and Greyson.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his commitment to family and community, and the pride he took in his heritage. Joseph's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family he loved so dearly.
Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 19th, from 4-7 pm. A funeral mass will be at St. Mary's Church, 313 Court Street, Plymouth, on Saturday, December 20th at 10:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Vine Hills Cemetery.
