Kwapien, Josephine of Plymouth, formerly of Westfield and Springfield, Mass., was born on July 4, 1923 and died November 22, 2010 at Jordan Hospital, after a brief illness, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry Kwapien. She was a devoted mother to Joyce and her husband Richard Benoit of Norwell, Jeffrey Kwapien of Plymouth, and the late Janice Kwapien. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank Grabowski of West Springfield. Also surviving are four loving grandchildren: Audra Benoit; Laurel Kwapien; Brett and his wife Brooke Benoit; and Andrew Kwapien. She was the great grandmother to Leyland Benoit. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws, and brother-in-laws. She owned and operated the Cheese Gift Shop in Amherst MA for many years. During her retirement, she volunteered at the Cardiovascular Rehabilitation program at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for approximately ten years. While living in Plymouth, she enjoyed visiting the Plymouth Senior Center where her favorite activity was attending dance class. She hugged everyone she came in contact with, whether they were family, friends, or strangers. A private burial and service was held on December 9th at the Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, we ask all who knew her to follow her example of selflessness, optimism and generosity.
