September 23, 1940 – February 20, 2024
Karl F. Wells, 83, of Harwich, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by family and his dog at the McCarthy Care (Hospice) Center in Sandwich on February 20, 2024, after a five year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Karl leaves behind his life partner of 27 years, Sue Shields of Harwich, daughter Allyson Claire Rutherford (Brian) of Vacaville, CA, grand-daughter Nichole Mehdian (Heva) of San Diego, CA, grandson Thomas Simes (Kendra) of Austin, TX, and Elizabeth Chapman (Noah) of Jacksonville, NC, three great grand-daughters and one great- grandson. He also leaves many members of his extended family. Karl was predeceased by son Thomas Frank Wells, daughter, Linda Marie Murphy, mother, Dorothy Wells Foley, father Frank Wells and step father Thomas Foley.
Following graduation from Walpole High School in 1959, Karl served four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. His first job in his chosen field of construction was with Cabot, Cabot and Forbes, where he was supervisor in construction of high-rise buildings in Boston. He was the owner of Colt Construction, doing heavy construction throughout the Northeast and over seas. In addition, he built many homes on Cape Cod and owned Cove Hill Irrigation. When he retired from construction, he drove school bus in Orleans, Harwich and for Cape Cod Collaborative. He always said that was his favorite job. Karl moved to Chatham in the 1970's and was very proud of his Bow roof home, which he built on Frost Fish Creek. He moved to Harwich in 2000. Karl was an avid boater and fisherman and in his retirement became very involved in model railroading (O Gauge) and antique cars.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2024 with a collation following at the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth, 329 Main Street,(Route 6A), Yarmouth Port.
