It is with great sadness that the family of Katharine M. Taylor announce her passing at the age of 92.
Katharine was a Boston native, daughter of John and Gladys Kane. She graduated from Mt. Saint Joseph High School in Brighton, MA and received her BA from Regis College continuing on to earn a Masters in Education and CAGS from Boston University.
Katharine had a 40 year long career as a beloved classroom teacher and reading specialist in the Boston Public Schools. She had a love for education and positively impacted numerous students throughout her career.
Above all her family was her greatest joy. Both Karen and John were her whole world and took immense pride in raising them.
There was no place Katharine loved more than being “on” Cape Cod, starting when she was a child. She loved going to the beach to body surf and learned how to row a boat on Cedar Pond. When she began her teaching career, Katharine set a goal to have her very own Cape Cod cottage, which she accomplished within a couple of years.
During her retirement, Katharine made new friends through water aerobics class and enjoyed time with dear friends as a season ticket holder for the Cape Cod Playhouse. She was always up for taking a ride around the Cape to see the sights, especially if it included a stop for a lobster roll and anything chocolate. Katharine was proud of her Irish heritage and immensely enjoyed two family trips to Ireland where she visited the birthplace of her grandparents outside of Galway.
Katharine’s most cherished role was that of “Mimi” and spending time with her grandchildren, Katharine “Sabrina”, Dorothy and Wyatt. She took great pride in their accomplishments and was always interested in what they were doing and working on.
Katharine is predeceased by her husband James H. Taylor, survived by her daughter Karen Taylor Stone of Milton (Chris) and son John Taylor (Melanie) of Brewster and her sister Patricia Gardener of Concord.
Katharine was known for her kindness, intelligence and wonderful sense of humor. The friends Katharine made and people she touched were numerous. Katharine forged connections wherever she went and made people feel seen and special, even as her dementia progressed.
The family thanks Standish Village for the compassionate care and companionship Katharine received towards the end of her life.
A funeral mass in celebration of Katharine’s life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to https://friendsofsnowlibrary.org/donate/ or https://www.friendsofpleasantbay.org/donate-2, two of Katharine’s favorite spots.
