Lawrence "Bob" W. Schraut, Jr., of Carver and Bourne Massachusetts passed away at the age of 80 on December 5, 2014.
Bob was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on November 19, 1934 to Isabelle (Morgan) and Lawrence W. Schraut, Sr. Bob grew up in the Hough's Neck neighborhood in Quincy, by the sea, which was a source of pleasure and enjoyment throughout his life. Bob left school to help support his family due to his father's ailing health. He enlisted the U.S. Army in 1957, serving in post WWII Germany and was later stationed in Fort Bragg North Carolina. After serving in the Army, Bob became a very successful aluminum siding contactor where he was highly respected by the men he employed, some of whom became his closest friends throughout his life. His love of the sea and the great outdoors inspired him to buy a cabin cruiser and to build an "over the bed" camper in which he and his friends and family spent many wonderful summers boating, fishing and camping on the beaches of Cape Cod and in the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire. In 1980, Bob and his second wife, Jane (Benson Curley) Schraut, purchased cranberry bogs in Carver Massachusetts. Together they worked many long hard years improving and expanding the business to become successful growers. They spent their later years enjoying their treasured cottage in Bourne with friends and family where Bob's favorite past time was spent digging for clams on the nearby beaches.
Bob was predeceased by his devoted wife Jane, who passed away on July 11, 2012 after a brief illness. Bob is survived by his children, son Mark R. Schraut of Holbrook and daughter Karen F. Schraut of Wellfleet. Bob leaves behind several adoring grandchildren who always looked forward to spending time with their "Papa Bob". Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews, some of which became a source of devoted and caring support in the last few years of his life. Bob is predeceased by his brother Jeffrey and his sister Jean. He leaves behind brothers Jim and Robert, and sister Mary-Lou. Bob is also survived by his former wife Maureen (Hickey) Schraut of Wellfleet.
A special thank you to the Lifecare Center of Plymouth where Bob spent the last year of his life, cared for by their devoted staff.
