Obituary

Retired Marine Corps First Sargent Leo Edward Tierney, Jr. passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on October 12, 2015 after a long illness. Leo was 86 years old. Leo is survived by his loving wife; Constance (Murphy) Tierney, of South Dennis, MA, his children; Kathleen (Tierney) Cogliano of Plymouth, MA, Karen (Tierney) Arnold and her husband Stephen Arnold, Jr. of Sparta, NJ and Kevin Tierney of Brockton, MA. Leo is survived by his grandchildren; Sean Russell and his wife Cara (Sullivan) Russell of Plymouth, MA, Shannon Russell of Taunton, MA, Andrew Arnold of Sparta, NJ and Matthew Arnold of Greensboro, NC. The family is awaiting the birth of Sean and Cara's first child and Leo and Connie's great grandchild; Elizabeth Rose due October 25th. Leo was the son of Leo Edward Tierney and Margaret (Rogers) Tierney of Quincy, MA. Leo was born in Quincy, on August 12, 1929. He was the youngest of four children. Leo was a graduate of Quincy High School. Leo enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1946. Leo is a decorated three war veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Leo's last station of service in the Marine Corps was at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut. Leo went on to have a second career working with Lift Tech International out of Muskegon, Michigan as a Regional Sales Manager for the East Coast. Leo was an active member for over 57 years of the BPOE, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Leo belonged to the Quincy Elks Lodge. Leo was also an active member of the Sons' of Erin Cape Cod in West Yarmouth, MA. Leo and Connie lived in Brockton for many years raising their three children on Dartmouth Terrace; Kathy, Karen and Kevin are graduates of Brockton High. Leo loved life and a good Manhattan! The family spent many wonderful years going up to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire where Leo and Connie had a trailer home in Moultonborough and where Leo kept his beloved boat; "The Three Ks". Retired First Sargent Leo E. Tierney, Jr. will be interned in Arlington National Cemetery. It was his wish to have all of his family present for a private service.
