Our beautiful mother, Lorena Del Carmen Barrera McLaughlin, 71, of Plymouth, MA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 25th.
Born in Nacozari de García, Mexico, she was a dedicated and loving matriarch. One of eight siblings, she immigrated to and was raised in Northern California by her brave and tireless parents. In her 20s, she married and moved east, living in Colorado briefly before settling in and spending the majority of her life in Massachusetts.
Loved endlessly by her family, Lorena was known for her nurturing spirit, calming demeanor, sweetest laugh, and giving the BEST hugs. She loved cooking for her family, gardening, dancing, laughing, and listening to music-which included everything from the Beatles to traditional Mexican music. Above all, however, she loved her children, through whom her legacy lives on.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Joseph McLaughlin Sr. of Plymouth, MA; her children, Ana Maria McLaughlin of Brooklyn, NY, Joseph McLaughlin Jr. of Medway, MA, James McLaughlin and fiancée Julianna Karn of Plymouth, MA, and her "baby," Michael McLaughlin of Los Angeles, CA; as well as six siblings, Edward, Raymundo, Rodrigo, Virginia, Ana Christi, and Robert, and many nieces and nephews.
Lorena was the heart of our family, whose love, guidance, and support shaped us into who we are today. Her dream in life was to be a mother, and she was very proud to say she accomplished and lived her dream to its fullest-which included her beloved dogs, Logan and Finn, who kept her company in her final moments.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Amadeo and Lydia Barrera, and her brother, Donaldo.
Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, February 6th from 9:30-11:30 am.
