Maria dos Anjos Ponte Santos
April 15, 1946 – October 21, 2025
Maria dos Anjos Ponte Santos, lovingly known as Angie, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 21, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on April 15,1946, in São Miguel, Azores, Maria immigrated to the United States with her family of six in 1975, eventually settling in Plymouth, Massachusetts, which became her cherished home.
Maria worked for many years as a calibrator at MIJA Industries, where she not only contributed her dedication and skill but also formed lifelong friendships. Later in life, she devoted herself fully to her home and family as a homemaker.
Though small in stature, Maria was mighty in spirit. Her warmth, strength, and lively sense of humor touched everyone she met—so much so that healthcare workers often told her, "You're so cute, I want to take you home with me." A woman of deep faith, Maria prayed the rosary daily and lived her life grounded in love, devotion, and gratitude.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—listening to music by Elvis Presley, watching her favorite game shows (especially The Price is Right), gardening, cooking delicious Portuguese dishes, playing dominoes and traditional Portuguese card games, and working on jigsaw puzzles.
Above all, Maria was a proud and loving grandmother—"Vavó"—to her nine grandchildren: Kyle, Ryan, Colin, Lucas, Catia, Tristan, Caleb, Morgan, and Ethan. Her family was the heart of her world, and her legacy of love, honesty, and faith will live on through them.
Maria is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Joao Manuel Santos of Plymouth, MA, her daughter, Judy Cabral and her husband Bobby of Plymouth, MA, her son Nelson Santos of Plymouth, MA, her son Helder Santos and his wife Joana of Plymouth, MA, her daughter Monica Vogelsang and her husband Kirk of Carver, MA, her sister Maria Ana Aguiar of Plymouth, MA, her brother Joseph Bicho and wife Arlete of Plymouth, MA, her sister Maria Piedade Medeiros and husband Larry of London, Ontario, her sister-in-law, Judy Ponte of Kingston, MA, along with many nieces and nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
Maria is predeceased by her son, Joao Santos, Jr., her parents, Manuel da Ponte Bicho and Maria da Conceicao Sociedade da Costa, her sister Rosa Tavares and husband Eduardo Tavares of Plymouth, MA, her brother Manuel Ponte of Kingston, MA, her sister Maria Fatima Calouro and husband Antonio Jose Calouro of Bristol, RI, her sister Maria Pestana and husband Octavio Pestana of Plymouth, MA, and brother in-law, Daniel Aguiar of Plymouth, MA.
