Chevrier
July 23, 1953 – May 4, 2024
Mark Paul Chevrier, 70, ended his brave battle with ALS peacefully on May 4, 2024 in Plymouth, MA with his family by his side.
Mark was born in Springfield, MA on July 23, 1953 to Loretta (McCarry) and George Chevrier. The family of seven enjoyed lively debates at the kitchen table, boating trips, summer days at White Sands Beach, and piano playing in the living room. In 1971, Mark graduated from Cathedral High School where he met Paula Laberge, his soulmate and beloved wife of 48 years. In 2020, Mark and Paula retired and resettled in Plymouth.
Mark earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1975, Professional Engineer License in CT in 1976, and Master in Engineering Management from Western New England University in 1985.
Starting his career at Monsanto developing plastic soda bottles and ending it at as Plant Manager at James Austin Corporation, his entire career involved plastics. He spent two happy decades at Lego Systems as Director of Manufacturing.
Mark was skilled at balancing his talent for engineering with his passion for music and the outdoors and his strong devotion to his family and community. He gave back through volunteering with the Wilbraham Planning Committee, and was active in Wilbraham Lions and St Cecilia's Knights of Columbus.
Mark wound up following his son into Scouting by agreeing to be a Webelos leader for Pack 359 in Wilbraham. As his son progressed into the Boy Scout program, so did Mark, becoming an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 359, as well as other roles, including Quartermaster and Troop Committee Chairman. Mark later directed his efforts to the district level, serving on the District Committee, acting as District Chairman and serving on the Eagle Board of Review. Mark earned Wood Badge, Silver Beaver and the District Award of Merit
A skilled pianist and guitar player, Mark performed at venues in the Springfield area. Recently, he hosted karaoke nights at Pine Hills playing piano music.
Travel was another passion of Mark's- whether it was heading to Bar Harbor, Denmark, Iceland, western and eastern Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii, he was always up for a trip. He also enjoyed a good book, a cup of coffee or a blueberry martini sitting by the Acadia coast. A glass of wine with the company of close friends made for a great evening.
Mark loved and was devoted to his family. He cherished his wife Paula, their children David and Lisa and grandchildren Lenora, James, Owen, Brianne, Lillian and Vera. Having fun with his six grandchildren was a highlight for Mark. He was also glad to spend time with extended family and many dear friends. He will be missed by all.
Mark is survived by his wife, Paula; son David and his wife Lauren Chevrier of Falmouth; daughter Lisa and her husband Jason Rowan of Kingston; six grandchildren; brother John Chevrier and his wife Shirley Fleig of St. George, Utah; sister Janet and her husband Brian Frikert of Avalon, NJ; as well as many nieces and nephews.
