Obituary

Matthew D. Brown, 58, passed peacefully on October 19, surrounded by his loving family.

Matthew was raised in Kingston, Massachusetts, and graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School in 1986. A hardworking man from a young age, he began his career in concrete foundation construction and went on to build his own business, Northeast Concrete Forms, in 2002. Through his work, he helped build homes for families throughout the South Shore of Massachusetts. He later mentored his nephew, Benjamin, to take over the business, always believing in him. It is hard to travel far from the home Matthew shared with his wife and two daughters without passing a house he helped build, a lasting reminder of the dedication he brought to his work.

Matthew enjoyed spending time with his family after a long day's work. He was always willing to share a beer with a friend and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He appreciated the simple things in life, loved country oldies music, and had a way of making everyone around him laugh with his quick wit and loving sense of humor. He was a good-time man who knew how to enjoy life and make the most of the moments that mattered.

At home, Matthew shared a side of himself that was reserved for his family, something his three girls will always hold close to their hearts. They knew him as someone they could always turn to, whether they needed a shoulder to lean on or simply someone to listen. He was a constant source of comfort and support, and everything he did was rooted in his love for his family. He worked tirelessly to provide for his wife and daughters, always wanting to give them the very best he could. His family was his greatest motivation, and he showed his love not only through all he worked to provide, but through his unwavering presence and the everyday moments they shared.

Matthew and Sheila were lucky enough to find each other so early in life and spend 34 years building a life together. They were true soulmates, and the love they shared was something special to witness. Through their marriage, they showed Alison and Madison what it means to love someone wholeheartedly, to compromise, to stand by each other through life's challenges, and to work through the hard times together. They taught their daughters that lasting love isn't about having a perfect life, but about finding your person and choosing to face life side by side. The love they built is one of the greatest gifts they gave their daughters, and the example they set will stay with them always.

Matthew loved being outside, especially taking in and appreciating the lawn he worked so hard to maintain. Before the family lost their beloved dog, Bear, the two could often be found outside playing together until the sun went down. These quiet moments at home were among the things that made him happiest.

Matthew especially cherished his trips to North Conway with his wife, Sheila. Together, they enjoyed hiking the mountains, sightseeing, and taking time to relax. He also looked forward to the Fryeburg Fair each year, a tradition that brought him happiness and created memories his family will hold close to their hearts.

Matthew left this world far too soon, leaving behind a loss that can never truly be filled. He was a one-of-a-kind man who cannot be replaced. He taught his family the importance of love and compassion, leading by example in everything he did. Having spent his life building foundations for other families, Matthew built something just as lasting at home. For his wife and daughters, he created a foundation of love, security, and the unwavering knowledge that he would always be there for them. His greatest accomplishment will never be measured by the homes he built, but by the life he gave his wife and daughters and the love he leaves behind. His family will carry his lessons with them always, striving to honor him by living with the same generosity and kindness that defined him. The homes he helped build will stand for years to come, but the love he gave his family will live on for generations. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Matthew is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Sheila; his two daughters, Alison and Madison, and Madison's fiancé, Nathan; his parents, Joanne and Linwood Brown of Kingston, MA; his sister, Christine Johnson, and her husband, Michael, of Rockland, MA; his brother, Gary Brown, of Hingham, MA; his mother-in-law Gail Egan of Carver, MA; his brother-in-law George Freeman of Kingston, MA; and his sister-in-law Patricia Freeman and her wife Eileen Thompson of Venice, FL.

Matthew was predeceased by his beloved cousin, Daniel Glass, whom he held dear and whose memory remained a part of his life.

In keeping with Matthew’s wishes, there will be no formal services. A private gathering for family will be held at a later date to honor and remember his life.
