Obituary

Mauvreen Ellen Ackley Mauvreen E. 'Mauve' Ackley of Dennis, MA passed away peacefully on June 13 at age of 72. She leaves a daughter, Wendy Ackley; a son, David T. Ackley and his wife, Liz Ackley of Ashland, MA; 2 grandchildren: William and Deegan Ackley. She also leaves a sister, Christine Savage and husband William of Worcester; a brother, Daniel Hanlan and his wife Liz of Paxton, MA; a brother Tyrone Hanlan and his wife Andrea of Charleston, South Carolina; and a stepbrother John Noreika and his wife Donna of Deerfield, MA. Mauvreen was the first-born daughter to Margaret R. Hanlan (McHugh) and Thomas F. Hanlan. She was born and raised in Worcester, MA and graduated class of 1965 from South High School. She worked for New England Telephone/Verizon for over 25 years as a clerk in Worcester. Upon early retirement, Mauve moved to Deer Isle, Maine for 2 years before returning to Massachusetts to live on Cape Cod which had always been her dream. Mauve very much enjoyed painting, particularly seaside scenes and sailboats. She also loved to paint colorful birdhouses which she gifted and are treasured by all in her family. Mauve also enjoyed gardening and flowers. Her most happy place was with the sun on her face and her hands in the dirt, planting annuals such as vinca, nasturtium, alyssum, begonias. Her bright sunroom on the back of her home that overlooked her gardens and lawn was her favorite place to dine and appreciate a job well done. A member of the Village Garden Club of Dennis, Mauve had many friends and participated in plantings and upkeep of local community gardens in Dennis and used her artistic flair to create floral masterpieces. Although an avid reader of mysteries, particularly Agatha Christie and some British authors, Mauve was less interested in the suspense and more intrigued by the formulation of the story and so would always start the book by reading the ending first then back to the start. Summer visits with the grandchildren whether collecting shells at Gray's Beach or playing in the water at Corporation Beach were always much anticipated. Dinners with friends/family and yard-saling with Sally will not be forgotten. Her quiet, easygoing nature and subtle sense of humor will be missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod Hospice. A memorial service will be held in Mauve's honor at the Jacob Sears Memorial Library at 23 Center Street in East Dennis, MA on Friday, July 12 at 2pm.
