Crowley, Merton E., "Mike," 87, of Plymouth, passed away in Stoughton on Monday, October 19, 2009. Mike was born in Jonesport, ME. He was the loving husband of the late Edna Leary.
He was raised in Somerville and lived there most of his life before moving to Plymouth 27 years ago. He worked for New England Telephone Company for 35 years.
Mike was Naval Master Chief, RMCM, in WWII, stationed in Okinawa
Mike was an avid golfer. He was a former member of the Plymouth Country Club where he hit two hole in ones. He also hit several hole in ones at Little Harbor Golf Club in Wareham. He was Past Commander of James A Logan VFW Post in Somerville, he belonged to the American Legion Post in Plymouth, a member of the Wareham Elks Club and a member of the USS Curtiss AV4 association, which was a commissioned war ship from 1940-1957.
Mike was the devoted father of Ann Crowley of Pembroke, Mark Crowley of Medford, Mary Curran of Plymouth, William Crowley of Medford, Joseph Crowley of Medford and Christine Lundy of Plymouth. He was the loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be by the Bartlett-Garrity Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 22 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A mass of Christian burial will be at St. Bonaventure's, 799 State Road, Plymouth on Friday, October 23 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Bourne National Cemetery in Bourne. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
