Michael Newcomb Coulter
August 5, 1941 - August 19, 2026
Michael Newcomb Coulter, 85, died on August 19 at his home in Marstons Mills, MA.
He was born in Moscow, Idaho, and grew up in Newton, MA. He spent time in Oxford England, an experience that remained an important part of his life. He graduated from Newton High School and earned a graduate degree from Heidelberg College. He worked for IBM and other companies in large main frame computers. In retirement, he worked for Hy-line Cruises on ferries that went to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
Michael earned his Extra Class license in amateur radio (W1DUR and later W1RF) and was an avid sailor on Coaster, a Caliber 40 sloop, sailing Long Island Sound, Maine, and the Intracoastal Waterway to Florida and the Bahamas.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 60 years marriage, Mary Ellen; his daughter Suzanne Rose; his son, Matthew Coulter; his sister, Andrea Hoffman; and his grandchildren Elliot Coulter and Anya Coulter.
