Nancy Marie Buhrer Genn, 86, of North Chatham passed away peacefully on April 14, 2014.
She was born in Lakewood Ohio on January 8, 1928 to Paule Merle Buhrer and Lois Petty. She graduated from Lakewood High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature from Radcliffe College. She married the late Gerald Young Genn on October 13, 1951.
After raising four children while moving frequently and mostly overseas, Nancy returned to the United States in 1984 and served as Administrative Director for the Wainwright House in Rye New York. She also served as an court advocate for victims of domestic violence in Bridgeport Connecticut. The family had deep ties to Chatham, and Nancy moved full-time to Harbor Coves in 1997. She worked as a volunteer and board member for the Chatham Ecumenical Council for the Homeless as well as the Chatham Council on Aging and Senior Center. Many will remember her service as a volunteer for Chatham FISH, driving others in need to medical appointments.
Nancy is survived by her four children, Karen Teuber-Genn of Lübeck Germany, Catherine Genn of Harwichport Massachusetts, Susi Povolny of Portland Oregon, and Stephan Golux of Berkeley California.
At Nancy's express wish, there are no services planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chatham Ecumenical Council for the Homeless.
