Opal Townsend, "Kay," passed away in Plymouth on January 10, 2013. She was born in Passadumkeag ME, the third of eight children of George and Hazel (Sturgeon) Cary. She married John R Townsend in 1947.
Kay leaves behind two sons, 5 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and 3 step great grandchildren as well as two brothers.
She loved the beach and spent most summers on Race Point when the boys were growing up. She set a world's record for the largest striped bass ever caught by a woman, only to be beaten by one lb by a very close friend, Rosa Webb. She enjoyed playing bridge and attained her "Life Master" status. Kay loved her home that was built in 1767 and was always on the lookout for original antiques to put in it.
She struggled for several years with Alzheimer's.
A private service will be celebrated in Kay's memory at a later date.
