Patricia Marie Mello (Mazzuchelli) - Known to many as Pat, Patti (in her youth) or simply the woman who could make silk flowers look more alive than the real ones, slipped quietly into the next great adventure on November 1, 2025, after a long and valiant dance with cancer. She was 81.
Born on August 24, 1944, in Riverdale, Maryland, Pat was the daughter of Catherine and Edward Mazzuchelli, who soon whisked her off to Braintree, Massachusetts. There she grew up, got smart & stylish, earning her associate degree from Aquinas College in Milton, MA. She would go on to prove that creativity and practicality could, in fact, coexist (often in fabulous shoes).
Pat spent many happy years on the South Shore, had two beautiful children and many adventures before her story took a romantic turn worthy of a novel; she fell in love with a man and then an island, beginning a new chapter surrounded by the turquoise waters and pink sand of Bermuda. Life was colorful, warm and filled with laughter and tropical beauty. Eventually, the Cape called her back home, and she answered, settling where the hydrangeas are fat, the seagulls opinionated, and the sunsets best enjoyed in the fall, when the quiet returns after a busy summer.
Always creative, Pat took a leap of faith and opened Frangipani, a silk flower shop on Main Street in Hyannis. Her arrangements had a certain magic and her Cape Cod themed wreaths were a huge hit, many still hanging today. Her shop bloomed into friendships and opened the door to her next passion: healthcare. From her early days in Public Relations at Cape Cod Hospital to her later work in home health care, she served on committees, hosted charity auctions with gusto, and brought her signature blend of wit and warmth to every room she entered. Whether it was the Chamber of Commerce, the American Heart Association, or a fundraising gala she'd somehow convinced half the Cape to attend.
But all the galas and dinner dances paled in comparison to what came next. Pat's greatest joy was being "Grammy" to Ashley, Aidan, and Austin and she relished their visits, trips to Virginia and North Carolina, and any opportunity to fill her home with love (and their bellies with Grape Nut Custard). She also loved spending time with friends and sipping coffee in her garden, talking to the chipmunks and birds.
She is survived by her son, David Jean, and daughter-in-law Karen Jean and her beloved grandchildren Ashley, Aidan, and Austin; (all of whom carry her spirit forward, with a bit of glitter, a little sass, and a deep love of Cape Cod sunsets); her daughter, Deborah Jean, and son-in-law Darin Samaweera as well as many extended family and lifelong friends.
Pat's was a life of color, laughter and kindness woven through every season. Those who loved her will miss her terribly, but they take comfort in knowing she's now somewhere even more beautiful, tending celestial gardens and keeping the angels on their toes.
A memorial service will be scheduled for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, cards, etc. Donations may be made, in memory of Pat, to The Cam Neely Foundation:
