PLYMOUTH - A. Patricia (Pina) Smith, of Plymouth, passed away Saturday January 30, 2010, at Boston Medical Center from complications arising from a heart attack.
Patricia "Pat", was born and raised in Carver July 30, 1939 and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1957. She was the loving daugther of the late Theodore and Amelia (Perry) Pina and one of nine children.
Her career in nursing began at Taunton State Hospital. She worked tirelessly in healthcare as a dedicated and compassionate caregiver. She was a CNA for over 45 years, most recently at Radius Healthcare in Plymouth for the past twenty-plus years, where her impact was profound. Although raising 7-children prohibited her from following her dream to become a Registered Nurse, her medical knowledge was comparable and respected by her peers.
She loved to walk Plymouth's scenic waterfront, spend time with her 7-children, 14-grandchildren, sisters, extended family and friends. She was extremely proud of her Cape Verdean Heritage, spoke creole and loved to attend annual Cape Verdean festivals. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's school, recreational and organized events and was affectionately referred to as, "Nana". Her legacy, is her children whom she never stopped being a Mother to, and loving. Her strong will and determination instilled within her children the drive, focus and confidence to acheive their goals - tempered by her caring, compassion and love. She was the eptimome of a strongly independent, loving mother and grandmother whose wonderful smile, humor and undying support will be greatly missed by her family.
She is survived by her husband of 30-years, Thomas J. Smith. She was the loving mother of Robert M. Hunt, William D. Hunt, III and his wife Kim, Lori A. (Hunt) Spencer, Alan J. Hunt, Tracey L. Hunt, Keith A. Hunt and Meclina M. Hunt and her partner, Jeremy Murphy as well as, her stepchildren, Stephen and Jaynee Smith. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie, Melina, Aron, Qiana, Alex, Alecia, Jessica, Austin, Christopher, Josh, Sydnie, Ariyanna, Olivia, Rileigh and the late Jasmin Nicole. She is also survived by her sisters, Pauline, Mary-Ann, Irene and many nieces and nephews.
