Paul David MacLeod, 79, died on January 9, 2022 at South Shore Hospital after a long illness.
Paul was born in Waltham, Ma., to Ursula and Frederick MacLeod and attended Duxbury High School, where he excelled in math. A hard-working family man and talented craftsman, Paul worked for many years at the Fore Rivers shipyard in Weymouth for General Dynamics as a painter and loved to tell stories of how he painted the insides of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy's "Moon ships" – the ships that retrieved the pay loads for Americas budding space program. He took great pride in his work with Dicks Chain Saw as well as the Very Brothers construction company, but it was the creation of his company MacLeod Improvements with his beloved son Sean where his carpentry skills really took the spotlight. Many homes and businesses in Duxbury, Marshfield, Plymouth and more were transformed with his creative and precise handiwork, and wait lists for their services were months long – even for family. Paul retired from active work in 2017, but kept himself busy with his macrame, family projects, and being with the people he loved. Paul was a quiet, gentle, simple man with a dry wit who seemed to have eyes in the back of his head as he never missed a beat, even down to his last days. He kept pieces of his one of a kind macrame in his car at all times, and would give them away to everyone he met, from all walks of life – everyone who knew Paul knew they were loved when he handed them a piece of his artwork.
Paul is survived by his children Beth (Macleod Largent) of Duxbury, Paul of Mauii, Hawaii, Sean of Duxbury and Sheri MacLeod, as well as lifelong friend, MaryAnn MacLeod of Plymouth. He leaves his sister, Dorothy MacLeod Poland of Bridgewater and Jean MacLeod of Ohio, as well as his cherished nieces Becky Poland Raymond of East Taunton, Judy Poland Durfee, of Bridgewater, Suzette Poland of Bridgewater and the late David Poland. Paul cherished and was so proud of his grandchildren, Kayla Sepulveda and her husband Luis of Duxbury, Ryan MacLeod and his wife Chelsea of Dedham, Sarah MacLeod of San Diego, California and Noah Hornecker of Duxbury. His quiet and steadfast love for his sons and daughters-in- law – Jeff Largent, Duxbury, Eileen MacLeod, Duxbury, Elizabeth MacLeod, San Diego, CA and the late Med Hornecker, only increased over time, and he was well loved in return, perhaps because he knew the fine art of when to speak out, and when to smile craftily.
All are welcome to join the family on Saturday, January 15 from 1-4 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 48 Schoosett Street, Pembroke. A celebration of Paul's life will be planned for Spring, 2022.
