IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paula Mary
Routier
April 19, 1950 – March 22, 2025
Paula Mary Routier, age 74, of Harwich, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She had courageously overcome lung cancer over two years ago but most recently succumbed to metastatic brain cancer.
Born in Boston, MA, Paula was the daughter of Eva and Richard Routier. She grew up with her siblings Barbara, Richard, and Robert, all of whom predeceased her. From an early age, Paula showed quiet strength, navigating the challenges of a difficult upbringing with grace and determination.
Paula served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam campaign, working as a cryptologist in the communications squad. Her military service was a great source of pride throughout her life—a reflection of her patriotism and deep sense of duty.
Professionally, Paula worked as a credit analyst for ECRM of Tewksbury and Alliance Tire of Wakefield. She brought diligence, independence, and integrity to her work, earning the respect of her colleagues and becoming a role model for women in business.
Paula shared over four decades of devoted partnership with her beloved wife, Kathy Martell. Married for 13 years, their bond was a true partnership grounded in love, loyalty, and joy. Paula also cherished her relationships with her extended family, including her brothers- and sisters-in-law, and her many beloved nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She found deep peace in nature—especially on the beach, where she loved walking, collecting shells and beach rocks, and soaking up the sun. Her happiest times were spent in the company of her wife, family, and close friends. Paula will be remembered for her honesty, compassion, warmth, and sparkling sense of humor.
Paula cared deeply for animals and supported kindness toward all living beings. Her ashes will go home to join her wife until Kathy's passing. Then, as they both wished, they will be together for eternity.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, Cape Cod VNA Hospice, or the MSPCA.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 16th, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court St, Plymouth, MA. All who knew and loved Paula are welcome to attend and celebrate a life well-lived.
