Philip "Phil" Swanson, a lifelong resident of Duxbury, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts, on August 19, 1949.

Phil was raised in the Millbrook section of Duxbury and was a graduate of Duxbury High School. He later attended Bentley College. A mild-mannered and kind-hearted man, Phil enjoyed music, sports, the Duxbury Days parade and fireworks, and especially the friendships that enriched his life. Among those friendships was his lifelong friend, Jane Bradly, who remained an important part of his life.

Phil was proud of his family's roots and the history they shared with Duxbury. His grandparents immigrated from Sweden and purchased a farm on High Street in West Duxbury. In the early years, the family sold farm products to the Kennedy family as they traveled from Boston toward Cape Cod. Their story was part of a changing Duxbury and a growing America, and Phil carried that family history with him.

Phil was also a familiar presence at the annual Duxbury bonfire, where he helped with its construction. He enjoyed being part of the community and the traditions that brought people together.

Phil is survived by his older brother, Paul Swanson Jr., and his wife, Jeanie. He also leaves his three nieces: Luel, her husband Robert, and their daughter Elle; Bergette Swanson and her son Connor; and Sarah Sypek and her son Kai.

In his later years, Phil received assisted living care at The Chilton House in Plymouth and care through a VNA facility in Somerville. He and his family were deeply grateful for the kindness, compassion, and care provided to him during that time.

Phil will be remembered for his gentle nature, his love of music and sports, his appreciation for Duxbury and its traditions, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
