IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Philip Curtis
Tuck
October 1, 1937 – August 2, 2025
Philip Curtis Tuck, 87, of Duxbury, Massachusetts passed away peacefully, encircled by family, on August 2, 2025. He was the husband of Jamie (Beth Haines) Tuck. Born October 1, 1937, in Brockton, MA, he was the son of the late Lawrence Tuck and Elizabeth (Davock) Tuck.
Phil is survived by a loving, blended family; two daughters from his first marriage to Margaret (Blevins) Kraus; Laura-Beth (Tuck) Brotman, Burton, OH, and her children Jacob and Sasha; Megan (Tuck) Shipman, her husband Steven Shipman, Marshfield, MA, and their children Gwyneth and Liam; and his son Padrig (Paddy) Tuck from his second marriage to his devoted wife Jamie.
Phil was raised on Spring Street in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, among his extended family and the woods he so loved. Though he started college at the University of Texas in Austin, Phil went on to attend his beloved College of William and Mary and after graduation returned to his hometown to settle down and raise a family.
Phil started his professional life in insurance in Wakefield and Boston, specializing in underwriting with American Mutual. He moved on to work as a conservation commissioner for the city of Framingham, which was work very close to his heart: Phil was a passionate conservationist. While upholding the Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act as part of his conservation duties, Phil became interested in law enforcement. Eventually becoming a full-time police officer in West Bridgewater, he rose to the rank of Sergeant until the time of his retirement.
Phil met his wife Jamie at Brockton Hospital while he was on the job. Eventually settling in the town of Duxbury, Massachusetts, which he loved dearly with its open spaces and ocean views. After his retirement from the West Bridgewater Police Department, Phil turned his attention to making Duxbury a better place to live by serving on three Town committees. He continued his work in public safety, by joining the Highway Safety Advisory Committee in 2013 with a focus on creating reduced speed zones and improving sidewalk and crosswalk accessibility and was a member until his death. Phil was also a member of the Open Space Committee from 2012 until 2023 and was passionate about preserving open space and maintaining the rural character of the Town. In an effort to protect historic structures, in 2020, Phil became a member of the Local Historic District Commission. He was very interested in the great history of Duxbury, happy to learn that he was a direct descendant of Priscilla Alden. Phil's volunteer efforts contributed to making Duxbury the great community it is today.
He also stayed personally active in conservation after retirement protecting the natural and undeveloped lands so essential to the planet's well-being. Phil was known as a truly gifted gardener with an ability to create the world's most exceptional compost.
Phil treasured his vacations in Maine, visiting art galleries and restaurants and enjoying the peaceful surroundings of nature. As an art enthusiast, he was also thrilled to discover that he was a direct descendant of his most favorite marine artist, Clement Drew, who hailed from Kingston, MA.
Phil was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Jamie, his children, grandchildren, extended family, and numerous friends. In every garden he tended and every patch of earth he fought to protect, Phil left a legacy of stewardship and devotion to the places and people he cherished.
