Obituary

Phillip Bartlett Delaney was born in Deols, Indres, France,
on the United States Air Force Base where his father, Dr.
Raynald Jean Delaney (Capt) was a staff dental officer.
His mother, Nancy Bartlett Delaney, was a graduate of
Rhode Island School of Design, where she majored in
Portraiture. His parents met in Boston where Dr.
Delaney graduated from Tufts University for both
undergrad and Dental School. Nancy was born in
Plymouth, MA, where her family has resided since 1620
and the Mayflower arrived. Phillip is a multiple great
grandson of eleven signers of the Mayflower Compact
and is a direct descendant of twenty-two of the Pilgrims
who survived that first winter in Plymouth.

Phil was a very talented artist and industrial designer
who graduated with a BA from New England College of
Art. He went on to a career of designing and building
everything from eye glass frames and boat parts, to
wired shelving and packaging seen in Walmart. Phil's real
love was sailing and the ocean. He was happiest while
sailing or kayaking off the New England coast in stormy
high winds. The 1947 Thistle sailboat he restored won
first place in multiple wooden boat shows.

He is survived by his brother, Mark Frederick Delaney
and his wife Jan, his three nieces, Erica Anne Delaney,
Rachel Marie Delaney, and Michelle Lynn Delaney. He is
preceded in death by his beloved wife Suzanne Michilak
Delaney, and his father and mother, Raynald and Nancy
Delaney. He has many beloved friends in and near his
home of Niantic, CT.

The memorial service will be held at the Covenant
Presbyterian Church, 1 Fairway Dr, Ledyard, Connecticut
at 11 am on February 5, 2022. It is also expected to be
streamed, info for which can be found at
www.ledyardpca.org.
