Obituary

Renato Zoccolante (July 30, 1910 – October 23, 2009) Renato Zoccolante, 99, formerly of Plymouth and Kingston, died in Graham, North Carolina on October 23rd. Married to his late wife Enis (Pizzotti) Zoccolante for 68 years, he is survived by his daughter Rita Zoccolante Duxbury and husband James of Graham N.C. and son Vincent Zoccolante and wife Joyce of Honolulu Hawaii. He also leaves two grandchildren, Christen Santinizio and her husband Leon as well as Vincent Zoccolante of Hawaii, two great grandchildren, McIntyre and Parker Duxbury of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. Born in Plymouth on July 30, 1910, he was the son of Vincenzo and Cesira (DeAcetis) Zoccolante and the brother of Dante, William, Ferdinand, Adolph, and Mario Zoccolante. He was educated in Plymouth schools, graduating in 1928. He worked in several occupations while furthering his musical career by studying at the Walter Smith Trumpet Studio in Boston. He played with numerous bands and orchestras and in the summer of 1934 toured the New England states with the Miss America Show. When war in Europe brought an end to the Big Band era, he enrolled in the Holley School of Electrical Engineering and upon graduating was recruited to work at the Boston Navy Yard for the duration of the war. During that time he was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxillary and Coast Guard Band. He later joined the electrical department at Bethlehem Shipbuilding Yard in Quincy where he worked the next 15 years. He moved from Plymouth to Kingston in 1929 where he living most of his adult life, participating in the Republican Town Committee and the Kingston Finance Committee. He held a Realtors License and was a life member of the America Federation of Musicians. He was owner of the Rocky Nook Greenhouses until 1982 when it was sold. Funeral arrangements will be made by the Bartlett-Garrity Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Calling hours will be on Saturday, November 7th from 8:30 AM -10:30 AM. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to celebrate a funeral mass at St. Mary's Church, 313 Court St., Plymouth at 11:00 am followed by a graveside service at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on his behalf to St. Mary's Parish, 313 Court St. Plymouth, MA. 02360 Expressions of sympathy can be sent to the family at 3141 Shelly Graham Drive, Graham, NC 27253.
