Obituary

Robert W. J. Bastille, 87, of 16 Yale Street, Hyannis, MA, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, surrounded by his family at home. Born in Attleboro, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Eva Bastille. He was married to his beloved wife, Mary Teresa (Cheverie) Bastille for 61 years. He graduated from Attleboro High School in 1955 and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1959.

Bob served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Navy on active duty from 1960 to 1964 and continued in the reserves until 1979. He was a dedicated mathematics teacher at Falmouth High School for 26 years, where he introduced innovative programs to teach Geometry and computing. Additionally, he worked for the Merchant Marines, the Steamship Authority, and Hy-Line Cruises.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, where he served as a cantor, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Order of Elks. A devout man, Bob loved singing, dancing, the ocean, traveling, and helping people. Every morning, he looked for the good in the day and endeavored to make the world a better place for those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Teresa, and their children: Robert J. Bastille of Hyannis, MA; Lisa M. Bastille (Lara Hindle) of Somerville, MA; and Lynn Anne (Bastille) Bowab (John) of Andover, MA. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Isle Mariel Bastille, Amy S. Bowab, John Patrick Bowab, and Jake J. Bowab, as well as his siblings: Dianne (Ron) Garzia of New York and Anita Fernandes of Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his siblings, Annette Birch, Jeanne Gaboury, and Michael J. (Kathryn Young) Bastille.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 21, 2024, at Our Lady of Victory, Centerville, MA, with Burial Services to follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Buzzards Bay, MA.
