Obituary

HARWICH – Robert "Bob" Johnson passed away Nov. 7, 2014 at Epoch Senior Health Care of Harwich after several months of declining, poor health. He was born on Nov. 10, 1930 in Quincy, and lived there until joining the United States Marine Corps. He served in Korea during that war and earned a Purple Heart there. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Claire (Major) Johnson; two sons, Scott Johnson and his wife Kathleen of Yarmouth Port and David Johnson of Carver; and a granddaughter, Melissa Johnson of Gloucester. Bob and Claire raised their two sons in South Weymouth, living there for over 30 years. The entire family especially enjoyed boating together, as well as fishing and waterskiing, and keeping purebred Boxer dogs. They always had one or two boxers in the house at a time, from 1953 to about 1999. After retiring from his 30-year-career with Stop & Shop, where he rose from Apprentice Meat Cutter to Meat Buyer for the company, Bob and Claire built their dream house in Harwich. Mr. Johnson was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and an extraordinary uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He leaves many, many good friends and he missed friends who predeceased him. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Johnson will be cremated, and his remains will be interred at Bourne National Veterans' Cemetery. Interment will be held on Thursday, November 20th at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, Brewster, www.TheBoxerRescue.org, or to the Mass SPCA.
