Robert W. Kallio, 68, passed away unexpectedly in his home in South Carver, MA on March 6, 2017. Mr. Kallio was born on January 2, 1949 in Carver, MA. A graduate of the Class of 1967 from Plymouth Carver High School, he went on to attend The Franklin Institute before serving for nearly 40 years as a Civil Engineer for the MassDOT Highway Division. Mr. Kallio was a member of the Church of the Pilgrimage, an avid fan of New England Sports teams (especially The Boston Red Sox), and a long-time supporter of Plymouth North High School's Girls Basketball program.
Mr. Kallio is survived and cherished by his daughter, Elizabeth K. LaCivita, son in-law, Seth W. LaCivita, and grandson, William F. LaCivita, of Plymouth, MA; his sister, Shirley Kuhn, of New Hampshire; and many nieces & nephews (to whom he was affectionately known as "Uncle Bobby"). He was preceded in death by his parents, Toivo Kallio and Elizabeth (Tavernelli) Kallio, and two sisters, Diane Halunen and Joan Grassi. In addition to his beloved family, Mr. Kallio treasured his cat/companion "Lester", his Chevy Trucks, clam bakes, and coffee – hot or iced. His hobbies included antiquing, attending auctions, and collecting baseball cards & coins.
Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 10th from 4-7 pm. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 pm
In lieu of flowers, his family greatly appreciates donations made in Mr. Kallio's memory to The American Cancer Society, Easter Seals, JDRF Diabetes Foundation, or The Salvation Army.
