Obituary

Robert Edward Losche (Bob or Rob), 77, of Plymouth, MA, died on March 1, 2024. Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, a devout Catholic, and a Vietnam Veteran.

Bob was born in Jamaica, NY, on April 8, 1946, to Catherine Tracy Losche and Herbert Losche. The eldest of three brothers, he attended La Salle Academy in New York, NY, followed by college at St. John's University, where he earned a bachelor's degree. After college, in 1968, Bob began his career with U.S. Customs but was soon drafted to serve in the Vietnam War. Bob served in the Army from 1968 to 1970 with Mike Platoon of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry (Black Lions) of the 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One). In combat for a year, he jumped out of a helicopter into the jungle fifty times during his tour. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm, the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, the Air Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Bronze Star Medal.

When Bob returned home, he resumed his job with U.S. Customs and met his future wife, Laura Hunt, in 1971. After a friendship and courtship, Bob and Laura married on May 21, 1977. They bought their first home in North Bellmore, NY, where they raised a daughter, Kathleen, and a son, Michael. Always an attentive Dad, Bob served as lullaby singer, bedtime storyteller, living room DJ, and little league coach. He instilled in his kids a sense of integrity. He was kind and fair and always there to help.

Bob spent his career in U.S. Customs, primarily at the World Trade Center in New York. He was there on 9/11, evacuated, and, being an incredibly fast walker, made his way uptown and across the 59th Street Bridge to the great relief of his family. He retired as the National Import Specialist for machine tools in 2006 after 38 years of service.

Bob and Laura spent the first 13 years of their retirement in Nashville, TN, where they enjoyed a more temperate climate and attended 100 live music shows at the famous Bluebird Cafe between 2007 and 2019. Bob also penned a blog about music, books, sports, and his service in Vietnam. Bob and Laura moved to Plymouth, MA, in 2019 to be closer to family.

Bob was a big music fan. He'd tell you his favorite band was The Eagles, but his musical tastes spanned decades and genres from The Ink Spots to Brandy Clark. He loved making and sharing a playlist—often themed—rain songs, baseball songs, weekend songs. He was also a voracious reader, usually reading fifty to sixty books a year. Bob played softball and ran several half-marathons on Long Island. From age five, he was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees and always supported his alma mater, St. John's, college basketball team. Bob loved his family and friends, Chock-full-o-nuts coffee, a ballgame on TV—muted so he could play music, emailing jokes or a clever pun, being retired, and spending most every day with his wife of almost 47 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine and Herbert Losche. He is survived by his beloved wife, Laura Losche of Plymouth, MA, daughter Kathleen Losche of Norwalk, CT; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Aisha Losche and grandchildren Carter, Grayson, and Adira Losche of Bridgewater, MA; his brother Richard Losche and brother and sister-in-law Christopher and Jeanette Losche of Caldwell, NJ.

Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter's Church, 86 Court Street, Plymouth, on Monday, April 8th at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy consider donating to one of Bob's favorite charities: Disabled American Veterans https://www.dav.org/ or The VFW https://www.vfw.org/.
